Winchester Model 1886 Extra Light Rifle — .45-70 Government, Factory Engraved with Gold Game Inlays Item: Winchester Model 1886 Extra Light Rifle Caliber: .45-70 Government Manufacturer: U.S. Repeating Arms Co. / Miroku, Japan (Winchester Licensee) Finish: Engraved blued steel with gold game inlays; figured walnut stock and forend Condition: Excellent — crisp engraving and checkering, minimal handling wear Exceptional Winchester Model 1886 Extra Light Rifle chambered in .45-70 Government, built by Miroku of Japan under license for U.S. Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, CT. The Model 1886 was John Browning's massively strong lever-action design for Winchester's largest black-powder-era cartridges, and this Extra Light variant carries the same rugged profile in a trimmer, more graceful package. The receiver is factory engraved with fine scroll and floral work, dressed up with gold-inlaid game scenes — a bounding whitetail buck on one side and a paired bull elk and deer on the other. Metal is deep, even blue throughout, with a large lever loop and a tang-mounted sliding safety marked "WINCHESTER MODEL 1886." The stock and forearm are cut from strikingly figured curly walnut with fine hand-cut checkering and a slim schnabel-tip forend, showing an excellent, glossy finish with no notable wear. Sporting-style adjustable rear and blade front sights are fitted. Barrel address reads "U.S. REPEATING ARMS CO. INC., NEW HAVEN, CT U.S.A. — JAPAN/MIROKU," with "WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 EXTRA LIGHT RIFLE. WINCHESTER LICENSEE" and the .45-70 Govt. caliber marking rolled into the barrel. Serial number is stamped on the magazine tube. A striking, display-grade example of Winchester's classic big-bore lever gun, dressed up with genuine gold-inlaid engraving — a strong piece for Winchester collectors, engraved-firearm enthusiasts, or anyone assembling a top-tier lever-action collection.
