Antique Winchester Model 1895 Lever-Action Rifle, .30-06 Item: Winchester Model 1895 Lever-Action Rifle Caliber: .30-06 (.30 Gov't-06) Manufacturer: Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, CT Sights: Lyman No. 38 receiver sight (period addition), semi-buckhorn rear, blade front Finish: Worn silver-gray receiver patina, blued barrel and magazine tube; uncheckered walnut stock Condition: Honest antique condition, functional, wear consistent with age and use Genuine antique Winchester Model 1895 lever-action rifle, John Browning's landmark design for Winchester and the first lever gun built around a fixed box magazine — a feature that let it handle pointed, military-style cartridges and made it a favorite of Theodore Roosevelt and turn-of-the-century big-game hunters. This example is chambered in .30-06, with the barrel stamped "NICKEL STEEL BARREL, ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER — .30 GOV'T-06." The tang is marked "MODEL 95 — WINCHESTER — TRADE MARK REG. U.S. PAT OFF & FGN" along with "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN." and the full run of Winchester's 1895-98 patent dates. Serial number is stamped on the tang with a "B" proof mark. The rifle wears honest, well-earned age: the receiver shows a worn, silvery-gray patina from decades of handling and storage, while the barrel and magazine tube retain noticeably more of their original blue. A period Lyman No. 38 receiver sight is mounted on the tang, a popular period upgrade for precision shooting, alongside the original semi-buckhorn rear and blade front sights. The straight-grip walnut stock is uncheckered and shows typical wear consistent with a gun that saw genuine field use. A true piece of American firearms history at an accessible collector price point — a correct, all-original Winchester 1895 in a desirable smokeless caliber, ready for the display case or the range.
