The barrel is stamped "Manufactured by Savage Arms Company, Utica, N.Y., U.S.A." with the full run of patent dates (Feb. 7, 1893 through June 1, 1909), "Savage Hi-Pressure Steel — Model 1899," and "Sav. .303" ahead of the takedown joint, with matching serial number stamped on the frame. True to the innovative early-production 1899 pattern, the receiver's brass-toned side plate covers the rotary cartridge-count window, and the action separates cleanly at the knurled takedown screw for compact storage and transport. The rifle carries a straight-grip walnut stock and forearm, a smooth-operating lever with a full finger loop, and a folding leaf rear sight paired with a blade front sight. The metal has taken on a pleasing gray-brown patina over the original blue, with the expected handling marks, light pitting, and finish thinning one would expect from a rifle well over a century old — an honest, unmolested example rather than a refinished or re-blued gun. A great addition for any Savage or lever-action collection — the takedown 1899's rotary-hammerless design was decades ahead of its time, and this early .303 Savage example carries all the right markings and features for the discerning collector.
