Savage Model 1899 Lever-Action Rifle, .303 Savage Item: Savage Model 1899 Lever-Action Rifle Caliber: .303 Savage Manufacturer: Savage Arms Company, Utica, NY Finish: Blued barrel and action with brass-toned receiver plate; walnut stock and forearm Condition: Very good, with some tool/handling marks near the forearm-to-receiver joint (please review circled photo closely) Early Savage Model 1899 lever-action rifle chambered in .303 Savage — the cartridge originally developed alongside this very rifle and one of the era's most popular smokeless sporting rounds. The barrel is stamped "Manufactured by Savage Arms Company, Utica, N.Y., U.S.A." with the full run of patent dates (Feb. 1893 through June 1909) and "Sav. .303" ahead of the forearm, along with a matching serial number stamped on the frame. The receiver's brass-toned side plate covers the cartridge-count window typical of the early 1899 pattern. The rifle wears a trim, straight-grip walnut stock and forearm, a smooth-cycling lever with a comfortable finger loop, and a blued barrel paired with the brass-finished frame. Please note some tool and handling marks are visible on the barrel near the forearm-to-receiver joint, circled in the close-up photo — bidders should review this area closely, as it is the primary condition issue on an otherwise sound, honest example. A great early example for lever-action and Savage collectors alike — the innovative 1899 action paired with its purpose-built .303 Savage chambering, a genuine piece of early smokeless-era sporting rifle history.
