The painted surface presents pronounced impasto with layered, directional applications of pigment throughout the tree, sky, hills, and river. Minor surface wear and handling marks consistent with age and display may be present. The canvas appears stable and display-ready, retaining its rich coloration, substantial texture, and overall visual impact. Presented in a dark ornamental frame showing light age-related wear. Provenance: From a private collection in Chicago, Illinois. According to verbal history, the work was purchased from the contents of a Washington estate in 1987 and subsequently retained in private hands. Records concerning its ownership before that acquisition were unavailable. This provenance reflects the history supplied when the artwork was received for cataloging. Visual Description: This vertical landscape centers on a large, twisting tree overlooking a narrow blue river.
