Title: Zerlina Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 29 x 21 inches (73.7 x 53.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Good condition. The painted surface presents vivid coloration, defined portrait details, and extensive decorative patterning. Minor surface wear and handling marks consistent with age and display may be present. The canvas appears stable and display-ready, retaining its strong color contrasts and overall visual impact. Presented in an ornate gold-tone frame showing light age-related wear. Provenance: From a longtime private collection in Georgia. According to family history, the work was discovered among paintings and decorative objects during the clearance of an older Savannah residence in 1994. Records predating the discovery were unavailable. This provenance reflects the ownership history supplied when the artwork was received for cataloging. Visual Description: This decorative portrait depicts an elegantly dressed young woman shown against a densely patterned background. Her centrally parted brown hair is arranged in symmetrical side coils, while her contemplative pose and sidelong gaze lend the composition a quiet psychological presence. The dark blue garment is enlivened by circular white, pink, violet, and blue motifs. Behind the sitter, geometric panels, spirals, circles, and triangular forms create a flattened ornamental field associated with Viennese Secession design. The interplay between naturalistic facial modeling and richly abstract patterning recalls the celebrated portrait language of Gustav Klimt. Bears an inscription reading “Gustav Klimt” near the right side. Additional Information: A label from The Lefevre Gallery, Alex. Reid & Lefevre Ltd., London, is affixed to the reverse and appears to identify Gustav Klimt as the artist and Zerlina as the title. Additional faint markings appear on the reverse of the canvas. The label, markings, and inscription are reported solely for cataloging purposes and do not independently establish authenticity, authorship, or a documented gallery transaction. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
