Title: Seated Figure in an Interior Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 47 x 36 inches (119.4 x 91.4 cm) Year: 1978, according to the inscription on the reverse Condition: Good condition. The painted surface presents broad, expressive brushwork with layered applications of pigment and visible linear passages throughout. Minor surface wear and handling marks consistent with age and display may be present. Areas of discoloration, scattered staining, and pigment transfer are visible on the reverse. The canvas appears stable and display-ready, retaining its varied coloration and strong visual presence. Provenance: From a private collection in Texas. No additional ownership or acquisition records accompanied the work when it was received for cataloging. Visual Description: This large vertical composition depicts a seated figure positioned within a fragmented architectural interior. The sitter’s pale pink face is defined by loosely drawn black contours and simplified features, while the body and surrounding environment dissolve into overlapping angular planes. Broad passages of pink, yellow, green, red, brown, blue, and gray produce a complex spatial arrangement that moves between figuration and abstraction. The vigorous brushwork, open contours, and compressed pictorial space reflect the expressive concerns of postwar American painting. Additional Information: The reverse bears a large inscription reading “Jack Tworkov 1978.” The inscription, date, and stylistic associations are reported solely for cataloging purposes and do not independently establish authenticity or authorship by Jack Tworkov. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
