1999 OMNI CBA #32 Yao Ming Chinese Basketball Rookie Trading Cards (25 Cards Total - All Duplicates). Presenting a remarkable quantity of early career cards featuring one of the most internationally significant basketball players of his generation. Issued in China for the Chinese Basketball Association, these cards picture a remarkably young Yao Ming wearing #15 for the Shanghai Sharks, years before he became the first overall selection in the 2002 NBA Draft and an international superstar with the Houston Rockets. This early Chinese issue is particularly fascinating because it captures Yao during the formative stage of his professional career in Shanghai, where the towering 7 foot 6 inch center developed into the dominant force in Chinese basketball and eventually led the Sharks to a CBA championship before departing for the NBA. The card's distinctly Chinese presentation, including Chinese language text, Shanghai Sharks imagery and OMNI branding, gives it tremendous character and provides a direct connection to Yao's career before his arrival in the United States. Yao would go on to become an eight time NBA All Star, five time All NBA selection and one of the most influential international players in basketball history, helping dramatically expand the NBA's popularity in China and ultimately earning induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. Early Chinese Yao Ming cards occupy an especially interesting niche within the modern basketball hobby because they document the career of a future global icon before most American collectors had ever seen him play. Particularly noteworthy here is the sheer quantity, with 25 examples of the same 1999 OMNI CBA #32 Yao Ming card included in a single lot, offering an unusual opportunity for collectors, dealers, graders, or dedicated Yao Ming enthusiasts to acquire a substantial group of his early Chinese rookie era cards at once. Combining international basketball history, early career significance, distinctive late 1990s Chinese card production and one of basketball's most important global superstars, this 25 card grouping represents a fascinating addition to any Yao Ming, Houston Rockets, Chinese basketball, rookie card, or advanced international sports card collection.
