1986 Fleer #82 Akeem Olajuwon NBA Rookie Basketball Trading Card. One of the premier Hall of Fame rookie cards from the legendary 1986 Fleer basketball set and an essential early collectible of one of the greatest centers in NBA history. Issued before he later changed the spelling of his first name to Hakeem, the card identifies the young Houston Rockets superstar as "Akeem Olajuwon," providing a distinctive snapshot of the earliest years of his professional career. The landmark 1986 Fleer set has become one of the most important basketball releases ever produced, famous for its instantly recognizable red, white and blue borders and extraordinary checklist of rookie cards featuring Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins and Olajuwon. Selected first overall in the 1984 NBA Draft, one selection ahead of Michael Jordan, Olajuwon quickly emerged as an elite two way force and ultimately spent the overwhelming majority of his 18 season career with the Houston Rockets. Nicknamed "The Dream," he led Houston to consecutive NBA Championships in 1994 and 1995, capturing Finals MVP honors in both series, and in 1994 became the first player in NBA history to win the NBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP awards in the same season. His remarkable career also included 12 NBA All Star selections, two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and more than 26,000 career points, while his extraordinary shot blocking ability helped him retire as the NBA's all time leader in blocked shots. Renowned for his footwork and signature "Dream Shake," Olajuwon helped redefine the possibilities of the center position and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
