1986 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan NBA Rookie Basketball Trading Card (Beckett BGS 7.5 NEAR MINT+) (Beckett BGS Certification: 0013659718). Few trading cards transcend their hobby quite like the 1986 Fleer Jordan. Instantly recognizable by its vivid red, white and blue borders and unforgettable image of a young Jordan soaring toward the basket in his Chicago Bulls uniform, #57 has become the defining basketball card of its generation and one of the most celebrated sports cards ever produced. The importance of the card is inseparable from the legendary 1986 Fleer set itself. Following a multi year absence of traditional nationally distributed NBA cards, Fleer returned basketball cards to packs with a remarkable 132 card checklist filled with future Hall of Famers, including Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler and Dominique Wilkins. Standing above them all was Michael Jordan, whose #57 is recognized throughout the hobby as his landmark Fleer Rookie Card and has become the signature collectible of the modern basketball card market. This example has been encapsulated and assigned an overall grade of BGS 7.5 NEAR MINT+, with impressive individual subgrades of 7.5 Centering, 8 Corners, 8.5 Edges and 6.5 Surface, offering collectors the added transparency of Beckett's detailed four category grading system. The card captures Jordan at the very beginning of a career that would ultimately redefine basketball greatness and transform him into a worldwide cultural icon. Jordan went on to capture six NBA Championships, six NBA Finals MVP Awards, five NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, ten scoring titles, 14 All Star selections and the 1988 Defensive Player of the Year Award, while retiring with a remarkable 30.1 points per game career scoring average and earning induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. Beyond the statistics, Jordan fundamentally changed the international profile of professional basketball, and his influence on sports, sneakers, advertising and popular culture remains virtually unmatched. In much the same way that the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle has come to symbolize postwar baseball collecting, the 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan has become a defining trophy of basketball collecting, coveted by generations of collectors and immediately recognizable even beyond the traditional sports card hobby. A true cornerstone collectible worthy of anchoring an advanced Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls, Basketball Hall of Fame, or world-class sports card collection.
