Dating to the late 20th or early 21st century, this handcrafted coyote prayer stick is attributed to artisan Bridget Eagle Feather of Mandan/Sioux heritage. Constructed upon a central shaft, the piece is topped by a genuine coyote skull,hand-painted with green, black, and yellow geometric designs and symbols representing a turtle and a dragonfly. The staff is wrapped in deerskin and adorned with numerous brass tacks. Below the skull, there is a detailed section of glass "pony" and"trade" beads in a pattern of green, black, and orange geometric and cross-like forms, as noted on the accompanying tag. Two leather-wrapped hoops flank the central shaft, decorated with hanging clusters of large, mottled turkey feathers tipped with fur tufts, small cylindrical leg bones, tin cones, and additional colored glass beads. Loose horsetail hair is attached near the top. The base of the staff features an integrated coyote foot with paw pad, wrapped above in braided leather, and ismounted on a rough-cut petrified wood or jasper stone base. One tag
