A framed winter landscape painting on canvas board executed in a naive or folk art style. The scene depicts a decorated covered bridge with a horse-drawn sleigh, several figures ice skating on a frozen body of water, and a rural house under a snow-covered sky. The artist employed a heavy impasto technique to create a highly textured surface, particularly in the white areas representing snow. The work is signed Shirley in the lower right corner. The reverse of the board features a handwritten inscription in cursive: To Uncle Joe & Aunt Ducky with much love at Christmas and all the year through Love Shirley Xmas '72. The piece is housed in a wide, ornate, light-toned molded frame. Height approx. 16 inches x Width approx. 20 inches (measured against a ruler). Condition: The frame shows visible age-related wear, including cracking to the gesso finish and minor surface losses throughout. The painting surface appears to be in stable condition with no apparent paint loss, flaking, or restoration.
