THREE VINTAGE ROYAL CHINA LAMAR SALAD PLATES - 22K GOLD FILIGREE LACE AND FLORAL BORDER A set of three vintage Royal China plates in the Lamar pattern, each ringed with an intricate 22K gold filigree border of lace-like fans, cross-hatched panels, scrolling leaves, and tiny flowers over a clean white ground. The plates have gently scalloped, softly squared edges and a plain white center that lets the elaborate gold work carry the whole design. A handsome trio for dessert, salad, or bread service, for tea-table use, or grouped on a plate rail or hutch where the gold catches the light. Sold as a lot of three pieces. Description Three matching salad or dessert plates, round with a gently scalloped and squared rim outline, wide flat border and shallow well. Each measures approximately 7-1/2" across per the tape-measure photograph; bidders should verify all dimensions from the photographs. Decoration is an all-over 22K gold filigree band covering the rim: arched lace fans, cross-hatched diamond panels, small five-petal flowers, and fine leaf sprays, with a gold line at the outer edge. The center well is plain white. Marks: the reverse is stamped in green with a circular wreath-style device beside the word ROYAL in an ornate banner, over the lines WARRANTED / 22-K-GOLD / M-9. The small ring of lettering inside the circular device is too fine and lightly printed to read reliably in the photographs. Attribution note Royal China Company of Sebring, Ohio produced large quantities of gold-decorated dinnerware of this type through the mid-twentieth century, and Replacements, Ltd. catalogs the pattern as Royal, USA, Lamar, listing the salad plate among the pieces. Elaborate 22K gold filigree borders on white bodies were a popular American giftware and dinnerware treatment from the 1940s into the 1950s, and the WARRANTED 22-K-GOLD wording on the backstamp is typical of that period. The M-9 notation is a factory pattern or decorator code. The Lamar pattern identification follows the border design and backstamp and is offered as the consignor's photo-based opinion rather than a guarantee. Bid on the items as pictured. Condition Used vintage condition, sold as-is. The gold filigree shows wear and thinning, and it varies noticeably from plate to plate - one plate photographs bright and complete while the other two show duller, faded, partially rubbed gold, most visible on the raised outer edge and the high points of the border. Small losses and breaks in the gold edge line are visible along the rims. The white bodies show scattered dark specks and faint gray utensil or stacking marks in the wells, and light overall surface scuffing consistent with use. No chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs are visible in the photographs. Areas to study closely are the scalloped rim edges, the gold edge line, and the well of each plate.
