Titled Hitch-Hiker, this expressive composition was produced for the Arts' Sake Portfolio and depicts Burton's characteristic confident line work and sensual treatment of the female figure. The print is numbered 17 from an edition of 35, signed and dated by the artist in pencil, with the image itself additionally inscribed "4.01.80 Dennis Burton, Vancouver, B.C." Burton was one of Canada's most provocative post-war artists, achieving prominence during the 1960s for his celebrated figurative series. His work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Ontario, Vancouver Art Gallery, and numerous major museums.
