The composition employs a sophisticated arrangement of muted greys, whites and subtle gold accents to create an elegant study of balance, proportion and spatial perception. Executed during the formative years of the artist's career, the painting reflects the minimalist geometric language that would become synonymous with Lantier's work throughout the late 1970s and 1980s. Carefully placed rectangular forms appear to float within two vertical fields, creating an understated yet highly architectural composition. Artist Biography Jean Lantier (born 1953) is a Quebec painter, sculptor and installation artist born in Quebec City. He graduated from the École des arts visuels at Université Laval in 1976 and has since established an important career in contemporary Canadian art. His work explores ambiguity, geometry, spatial relationships and minimalist forms through painting, sculpture and installation. Lantier has exhibited extensively throughout Quebec, and his works are represented in major institutional collections, including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ) and the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC)
