Sheet: approximately 18 × 28 in.Unframed. The print dates to 1976, the final year of Davidialuk's life. DAVIDIALUK ALASUA AMITTU (1910–1976) was an important Inuit artist and storyteller associated with Povungnituk (now Puvirnituq), Quebec. His graphic work is particularly noted for translating Inuit oral histories, legends, supernatural encounters, hunting experiences, and episodes of violence or survival into direct narrative images. Museum records identify him as born at Nunagiirniraq Camp and active at Povungnituk/Puvirnituq. Davidialuk became one of the community's distinctive narrative print artists. His compositions frequently incorporate Inuktitut syllabics directly into the image, effectively joining storytelling and image-making. A later Povungnituk catalogue specifically cites Davidialuk and Joe Talirunili as earlier artists known for incorporating syllabics into their compositions.
