John Zachmann (1929-2017) Detroit, MI c.1960's 16" long An exceptionally well carved and finished decoy, Zachmann is recognized as one of the Midwest's premier contemporary carvers of his time. Though he made many grades of decoys, his competition decoys, such as this canvasback, is a genuine legacy piece to his career and the greater lineage of decorative mid 21st century Michigan carvers. Hollow carved with an applied bottom board. The decoy was sold or traded by Zachmann to his friend and fellow competitor Bill Joeckel at a competition. Later Joeckel sold the decoy to our current consignor.Condition: Excellent and original, small fleck of paint missing from tail edge.Provenance: Private Collection Bill Joeckel acquired from carver
