In the 1960's Bob began carving incredibly detailed competition pieces. He was still working at his flower shop and so was able to pursue carving purely for the passion and creativity. Ever in pursuit of a better carving, during this time, Bob White reached out to the Ward Brothers who suggested using taxidermy mounts to make a more accurate bird, even referring him to a taxidermist who could help. In direct conversation with Bob White, he said this prompted him to either harvest or collect a small handful of specimens to reproduce in wood. This teal was one of those limited creations. According to Bob White, it represents the only full size full body duck carving he ever made - making this a truly one of a kind piece. Bob dedicated countless hours to the carving and it represents some of his best efforts from the best period of his decorative carving. The body is very well sculpted even including a pinched breast. The head is turned with rasped carved feathering and a textured bill. The wings flow back to deeply relief carved and incised wing tips coming nearly to a point before the carved tail feathers. Not missing any creative detail, the feet are entirely carved. The underside bears Bob's oval brand and is signed and dated 1970. The fresh to market carving has resided in the same collection since he acquired it from Bob White as a boy when he was a neighbor.Condition: Near mint with a couple very tiny tail chips that were professionally restoredProvenance: Private Collection, California who acquired it as a young boy directly from Bob White
