Early Winchester Model 74 semi-automatic rifle chambered specifically for .22 Short. Introduced in 1939, the Model 74 was Winchester’s economical blowback-operated rimfire rifle and features a 24" blued barrel, walnut stock, cross-bolt safety, and tubular magazine housed in the buttstock. The .22 Short version has a factory capacity of approximately 20 rounds and was produced in considerably smaller numbers than the later .22 LR version. Serial number 39442 is consistent with early, likely first-year 1939 production; however, surviving factory serialization records for the Model 74 are incomplete, so the date should be considered an estimate. Standard sighting equipment consisted of a Winchester 75D front sight and 32B/32E open sporting rear sight. This rifle is chambered for .22 Short only and should not be confused with the more common .22 LR version. Please review all photos carefully for the rifle’s exact condition, markings, finish, stock wear, sight configuration, and originality. Serial Number: 39442
