Original World War II-era U.S. military 105mm artillery shell casing, dated 1944, that has been substantially cut down from its original length and repurposed as a container or decorative piece. The base is clearly marked “105 MM M14 TYPE I” along with “1944” and additional ordnance/manufacturing markings, including “ECC 379.” The M14 cartridge case was associated with U.S. 105mm howitzer ammunition during WWII. This example retains its large original rimmed base and primer area, while the cylindrical body has been shortened considerably. The upper edge is rough and uneven from the modification, with one section bent outward. Its altered form gives it the character of a piece of WWII militaria / repurposed trench-art-style décor, although there is no documentation establishing when or by whom it was modified. Displays substantial age and use, including darkened patina, oxidation, verdigris, scratches, scuffs, staining, surface wear, and the rough cut upper edge. Spent/empty casing only; no projectile or live ammunition is included. See photos for markings, details and condition.
