Vintage Tarahumara Woven Basket Collection

Collection of six vintage Tarahumara-style handwoven baskets and containers in a variety of forms, sizes, and weaving patterns. The group includes three sculptural open baskets with flared rims and three smaller lidded boxes/baskets, including round and rectangular forms. The larger pieces feature striking natural tan, cream, brown, and charcoal-colored fibers woven into geometric, chevron, diamond, and diagonal patterns. The smaller lidded baskets display especially tight weaving with contrasting dark geometric accents. Each piece has an individual handmade appearance with subtle variations in shape, color, and weave. Traditionally associated with the Rarámuri (Tarahumara) people of northern Mexico, this style of basketry is collected for its intricate handwoven construction and Southwestern/Mexican folk-art appeal. These would display beautifully together as a collection of Southwestern basketry, Mexican folk art, indigenous-style woven décor, or rustic natural-fiber art. Vintage preowned condition with age-related wear, discoloration, irregularities, loose or protruding fibers, and some areas of bending or minor weave loss.
