Oil on panel, framed. Attributed to Manly E. MacDonald (1889 - 1971). This artwork depicts a solitary horse standing against a backdrop of lush greenery. The painting is characterized by Thomson's distinctive brushwork and use of vibrant, expressive colors, capturing the essence of the Canadian wilderness. Blurred Signature on bottom right corner. 25 cm x 33 cm (10" x 13"), F: 49 cm x 51 cm (19" x 20"). MacDonald, a distinguished member of the Ontario Society of Artists and an Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy, was known for his depictions of pastoral scenes, often featuring old mills, rushing streams, and grazing animals. His works, which contrast with the rugged modernism of the Group of Seven, are held in esteemed collections such as the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Canadian War Museum. The Belleville Public Library and John M. Parrott Art Gallery also house a significant collection of his paintings.
