Late 19th-century albumen portrait of an elderly gentleman in three-quarter profile with a white beard and moustache. The subject is dressed in a dark jacket, waistcoat, and high-collared shirt with a tie. The photograph is presented in a period Victorian bevelled glass frame with a reverse-painted eglomise border in light blue and grey tones. The perimeter of the glass is finished with a decorative metal chain-link binding. The reverse features a wood-grain effect backing board and a hanging chain attached to the top corners. Dimensions: approx. 29.2 cm x 24.1 cm (approx. 11.5 inches x 9.5 inches) measured against a ruler. Condition: The photograph exhibits significant foxing and general age-related fading throughout. A small triangular paper fragment is detached and trapped between the glass and the print. The eglomise border shows minor areas of loss or discolouration. The metal binding and hanging chain show surface oxidation and patina consistent with age. The glass is free of cracks.
