A framed Extra edition of The Detroit Free Press dated Saturday, November 23, 1963. This state edition chronicles the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. The masthead features the publication name in blackletter type above the date and a price of ten cents. The lead headline reads KENNEDY MURDERED; JOHNSON PRESIDENT in large block lettering. Accompanying stories cover the arrest of Lee H. Oswald, described as a pro-Castro suspect, and the return of the President body to the capital. The page includes several photographs, most notably a portrait of John F. Kennedy and a photograph of Lyndon B. Johnson taking the oath of office.
