WWII Japanese Katana Sword Unjosai Katsunaga Signe

WWII-era Japanese katana signed on the tang “Unjosai Katsunaga,” a documented wartime Seki swordsmith known for producing swords in several grades ranging from Showato to higher-quality traditionally made blades. Tang inscription is translated as “Unjosai Katsunaga forged this.” Blade measures approximately 25 inches and exhibits substantial curvature of approximately 1-1/4 inches.Sword is mounted in unusual civilian/private-purchase style fittings rather than standard Type 98 military mounts, with black lacquered wooden saya, decorative floral metal fittings, wooden tsuka, brown cord wrapping and visible samegawa/rayskin beneath portions of the wrap. Handle and fittings show considerable age, wear, losses and deterioration as photographed. Blade exhibits oxidation, staining, surface wear and evidence of an older polish. Hamon is partially visible but blade has not been professionally evaluated to determine whether it is traditionally forged or Showato.Tang retains original patina and should not be cleaned. An interesting signed WWII Japanese sword by the relatively uncommon smith Unjosai Katsunaga. Please review all photographs closely for signature, blade condition, mounts and completeness.
