Antique Copper Wash Boiler with Lid

Updated August 27, 2026

Antique copper wash boiler with its matching fitted lid, the kind that sat on a wood cook stove to boil laundry. Solid copper body, long oval shape, rolled top rim, three pairs of raised rib bands rolled into the sides for strength. Both end handles are cast metal brackets riveted through the body with turned wood grips, and the wood shows honest use wear and old darkening. The domed lid is stepped with a shaped wood center handle on two metal straps. The outside has been polished at some point and shows a warm bright copper glow with scattered dents, hammer marks and light scratches. The inside shows heavy green verdigris, dark tarnish and old seam solder, and the bottom is dented and pushed up in the center. Seams are folded and soldered in the traditional way. No maker name or stamp was visible in the photos. Condition is good for age and it is best sold as a decorative piece rather than a cooking vessel. Boilers with the original lid always bring more than the ones that have lost it. Estimated Value: $75 to $150 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is.
