Excellent selection of a vintage Italian ceramic monkey figurine, perfect for collectability. The sculpture depicts a stylized monkey perched atop a colorful log that is accented with green and orange leaves. The monkey is holding a piece of vegetation in his hand, most likely an ear of corn. The overall statue is done in a “majolica-style” or glossy, tin-glazed white finish. As these figurines were produced in Italy during the 1960s and 1970s, they were popularized when they were imported by décor brands. This fit within the “Hollywood Regency” or “Plam Beach” tropical glam movement where the exotic aesthetic was used to break of formality in high-end spaces. It is believed that this style of item was sourced by Dorothy Draper & Company in terms of its stylistic inclusion into interior design. The overall piece is in great condition, free of any cracks or wear. The statue measures 10.5” H x 8” W” x 5” D. The bottom of the piece houses a thin layer of protective red foam.
