Unique selection of an antique piece of framed art, perfect for collecting and home display. This selection is entitled “Blue Mood” and was produced by artist Itzchak Tarkay. Tarkay’s piece focuses on a primary female figure in a moment of still contemplation while being seated alone at a parlor table. She is leaning slightly forward with her arms resting on the table and her gaze is directed downward or off to the side in a more sullen “Blue Mood” to match the piece’s name. The piece is anchored by shades of blue in correlation with its name but is also held with some warm background accents of yellow, red and magenta to keep the image from feeling too cold. Bold, black outlines define the woman’s form, making the figure pop against the more fluid, watercolor elements of the background. Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was a world-renowned Israeli painter and graphic artist, celebrated as a leading figure in the modern figurative movement. His work is most famous for its vibrant, contemplative depictions of elegant women in social settings like cafes and parlors. He survived the Mauthausen Concentration Camp at the age of 9 but remarkably he chose to omit most signs of trauma or suffering from his art, focusing instead on serenity and accepting the energy of the moment as it arrives. His style was also heavily shaped by French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, especially with the color theory of Matisse. This direct piece is a serigraph is a series of 750 prints, notated as number “412”. There is an artist’s signature located in the bottom left corner. Overall picture is framed, matted, and under glass measuring 26” H x 21.5” W. Interior picture measures approx. 13” H x 10”.
