Unique selection of a framed piece of art, perfect for home display. The piece is entitled “L'Année du Dragon” or “The Year of the Dragon” and was produced by artist Guillaume Azoulay. The piece was created specifically to honor the Chinese Zodiac “Year of the Water Dragon” and is a stunning example of his signature “Line Illusionism” technique, combining traditional Eastern mythic symbolism with distinctly Western, modern graphic style. One clear noticeable element of the piece is that instead of solid shapes, the dragon and horses portrayed in the painting are constructed entirely from thousands of interlocking, parallel lines that twist and coil to showcase a fluid, wave-like movement. Guillaume Azoulay is a self-taught, Moroccan-born artist known as the “King of the Line”. Born in Casablanca in 1949, he began selling his sketches on the street at age 13 and then became the youngest artist to have his works accepted into the infamous Louvre art museum. His style once again focuses on the “purity of line”, using continuous organic lines to create a powerful illusion of fluid motion, depth, and volume. There is often a topographical element where he often treats biological subjects uniquely like landscapes. He is also famous for using continuous lines to complete pictures without ever lifting his pen from the paper. Overall picture is framed, matted and under glass, holding overall great presentation. Frame is in great shape as well. The complete piece measures 37” H x 51” W. Written in pencil in the bottom left-hand corner is the serigraph number of “65/200” along with the title “L'Année du Dragon" and a copyright for 2012. It appears that the bottom right corner features Azoulay’s signature. One other item to note is that it appears that this selection is a gold leaf variant as there is clear gold leaf present for the background of the subject matter.
