Produced in Paris, France, by Établissements Gaumont, this WWI-era military artillery/goniometer sight mount base features stampings reading "Etabnts GAUMONT Paris" on the knurled side adjustment wheel face. Serial/assembly number "X .6078" is stamped into the brass lower extension block. The sight base measures 5 inches high by 4.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep (12.7 cm H x 11.4 cm W x 8.9 cm D) with a 2.75-inch main body housing diameter (7.0 cm) and weighs 1,505 grams (3 lbs 5.1 oz). Constructed with heavy brass and steel housing elements, a vertical central mounting spindle, silvered 6400-mil azimuth scale bands, and multiple knurled adjustment drums, the unit maintains full mechanical movement across all adjustment controls and locking thumbscrews. The top-mounted circular bullseye spirit level remains intact with its internal bubble indicator fluid present. All olive green paint and natural brass finishes remain factory original with no repainting, displaying age-appropriate paint chipping, surface wear, verdigris, and brass exposure along contact edges.
