This large two-piece zoomorphic sculpture is carved from wood with a weathered mineral pigment finish. It features a horizontal composition typical of Bambara Chiwara head dresses, combining features of a crocodile, antelope, and lizard. The head detaches via a peg-and-socket joint, and the stylized body is decorated with horizontal ridges and a looped tail. 18 inches tall by 55 inches long. The sculpture shows substantial pigment loss and natural drying cracks throughout. A large area of charring and structural wood rot is present on the right flank. There are minor chips and losses to the horn tips, ears, and base edges.
