This auction lot features two rare nineteenth-century antique German religious books including a hand inscribed hymnal dated 1814 and a published Gesangbuch from 1896. The older volume is bound in heavily weathered brown leather with visible surface scuffing and retains portions of its original metal closing clasps along the edge. The interior flyleaf page boasts an incredible hand-written genealogical or ownership inscription in traditional German script naming Magdalena Baum and noting the date 1814. The second volume is an 1896 edition of the Gesangbuch der Ver. Bruder in Christo published in Dayton, Ohio by Rev. W. J. Shuey. It features an ornate embossed dark cloth cover with gold spine lettering, clean interior pages printed in Fraktur typeface, and a list of local family names written on the front endpaper including Saylor, Young, and Ruhl. Both volumes remain structurally intact with typical paper yellowing, light foxing, and edge wear consistent with their historic age and domestic church use. Please review all the provided close-up photographs to examine the title pages, script details, and individual binding conditions.
