ca. early - mid 19th century; Each round butter print is chip carved softwood with compass star design and deep variegation to limbs of the star: 1. Lathe turned blank with full mortised friction set octagon-shaped handle, checker carved print face and incised and chip carved pie crimp border, 4 3/8" dia. X 4 1/2", Condition: dark spots and a chip from print face at point of pin mortise. 2. Handleless puck-type circular cut blank with completely filled print face, fine worked compass star design with radiant design accents, 3 5/8" dia. X 1 1/4", Condition: "as found", good.
