ca. 1973; Signed, "L.B." Lester Breininger, Robesonia, Pa hand molded redware pelican feeding its young by picking its breast till bleeding, placed on a freehand molded base. The vulning pelican was a Pennsylvania German symbolic figure of Christianity used by several Fraktur artist. The figure has flowing green and mottled manganese glaze accents; 3 1/2" dia. x 2 3/8"; Condition: Good - small "flea flake" noted to glazed edge of base.
