Antique Asian Bronze Tiered Nesting Temple Bells

Antique Asian temple bell set crafted from cast bronze and arranged in a striking graduated, vertically suspended nesting configuration. The bells decrease in size as they descend, allowing the individual bronze bells to hang together as a tiered set. This style is particularly associated with Japanese and other East Asian temple and decorative bell traditions; documented antique Japanese examples similarly feature multiple graduated bronze bells suspended together on a single cord or chain. Accompanied by a long red striker, designed to sound the suspended bells from the exterior rather than relying solely on conventional internal clappers. The graduated construction allows the differently sized bells to produce varying tones. Comparable Japanese bronze temple and meditation bells are valued for their resonant sound as well as their sculptural and decorative qualities. The suspended bell assembly measures approximately 30" long in its current configuration. The hanging chain includes three additional links, potentially extending the overall length by approximately another 4". The existing chain can also be swapped out if a different hanging length or presentation is desired. Cast bronze construction exhibits an aged surface and patina consistent with an older decorative bell set.
