Distinctive vintage South or Southeast Asian bronze figural hand bell featuring an ornate standing figure handle and extensively engraved decoration throughout the bell. The sculptural handle depicts a standing human figure wearing a tall tiered headdress or crown, with folded arms, detailed clothing, and a stylized traditional appearance. The figure at the top is currently slightly tipped/leaning, as shown in the photos. The bell body is decorated with hand-incised elephant imagery, along with intricate geometric, floral, dotted, and scrolling borders. The bell appears to be constructed from cast bronze or a similar copper-alloy metal and has developed a rich, dark aged patina with areas of oxidation and tonal variation throughout. The underside reveals a substantial traditional-style metal clapper suspended from a short linked assembly, and the thick cast bell body adds to the piece's substantial handcrafted appearance. A handwritten number “874” is present inside the bell and appears to be a later inventory or collection notation rather than a maker's mark. The combination of the figural handle, elephant motifs, engraved metalwork, dark patina, and traditional bell construction is reminiscent of historic decorative and ceremonial metalwork from South and Southeast Asia. It would make an intriguing addition to a collection of Asian bronze, elephant collectibles, figural bells, temple and ceremonial bells, ethnographic art, folk art, antique-style metalwork, or Southeast Asian decorative objects. Exact age, country of origin, cultural attribution, and identity of the standing figure have not been independently verified. Please note that the figural handle is slightly tipped at this time and review the photos carefully for its current position and overall condition. See photos for more details.
