Richard W. Derr (1827-1864) enlisted into Company H, 187th Pennsylvania from Dauphin County, Pa. This is the first GAR Soldiers Memorial I've seen in this format that honors a service member who died during the war. Richard participated in several battles, but came down with camp fever and died December 1st, 1864 at a hospital in Philadelphia. This memorial was dedicated to his memory by his wife, children and great-grandchildren. 35 1/2"H x 29"W Scattered wear to original frame.
