A pair of glazed porcelain figurines manufactured by Hollóháza, Hungary. Each figure is hand-painted in polychrome enamels, depicting traditional Hungarian folk costume. The larger figure is modelled wearing a tall black hat with floral motifs, a white shirt with a cravat, a reddish-brown waistcoat, and a black apron with a detailed floral border and fringed hem. The smaller figure wears a similar costume including a black waistcoat and a hat with yellow bands. Both pieces stand on white bases. The undersides bear green printed factory marks for Hollóháza, featuring an evergreen tree symbol. The larger figure is marked HANDPAINTED, MADE IN HUNGARY, and 1831, with the incised model number 8070. The smaller figure is marked HUNGARY, 1834, and 14, with the incised model number 8071. A decorator mark 59 is also visible in red. Measured against a ruler: Height of larger figure approx. 19.7 cm (7.75 inches); Height of smaller figure approx. 12.1 cm (4.75 inches). Condition: Both figurines are in excellent condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of restoration. Minor firing marks are present on the undersides of the bases.
