This Japanese Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle is chambered in 7.7x58mm Japanese and represents a heavily modified example of one of Imperial Japan’s principal World War II service rifles. Serial number 0017385, this example features an approximately 19" barrel with a shiny bore and is in fair overall condition. The rifle has been sporterized from its original military configuration and is currently fitted with a Bushnell Sportview scope. The scope mount obscures some of the receiver markings, preventing clear identification of all original markings from the available view. The rifle utilizes a shortened sporting-style stock and traditional bolt-action receiver. The Type 99 was adopted by Japan in 1939 and saw extensive service throughout World War II. While altered examples are less original than untouched military rifles, they remain interesting as period sporting conversions and pieces of military-surplus history. Please see photos.
