Few antique firearms command a room like a Balkan or Ottoman long gun, and this example — repatriated from Greece and of Ottoman or broader southeastern European Balkan origin — is one of the most visually striking pieces to pass through Summit Gun Auctions in recent memory. At 71 inches overall with a 58.5-inch barrel, that extraordinary length was a deliberate cultural choice. Ottoman and Balkan warriors and hunters prized the extra-long tüfek for its accuracy at range and its unmistakable visual prestige. These were personal weapons that reflected the status, regional identity, and craftsmanship traditions of their makers and owners, circulating throughout Greece, Albania, Macedonia, and the broader Ottoman-controlled Balkans during the 18th and 19th centuries. The gun is full-stocked in the Balkan tradition, with the barrel secured by multiple segmented brass barrel bands spaced along the full length — a construction hallmark that sets these arms immediately apart from European military contemporaries. The brass bands carry embossed and hammered decorative work including a heraldic or floral cartouche motif near the muzzle. At the breech, gold bar inlays are set into the metal beneath a relief-carved floral panel, evidence of genuine quality and skilled regional craftsmanship. The lock is a European-influenced flintlock assembly with cock, frizzen, brass pan, and bridle all present, with engraving visible on the lockplate. The buttstock is deeply carved in the distinctive feather and chevron relief pattern running the full length of the butt and wrist — a decorative motif extensively documented in Greek, Albanian, and Turkish gunsmithing of this era — terminating in the characteristic flared paddle-shaped profile of the Balkan long gun tradition. This piece is offered in honest, uncleaned, as-found condition consistent with its age. Notable condition issues include a stock crack at the wrist near the lock, surface oxidation and pitting on the barrel and metalwork, wear to the brass banding, and general patina throughout. The flintlock mechanism appears intact though functionality has not been tested or verified. Antique Ottoman Balkan Tufek Flintlock Long Rifle Flintlock 58.5 Dark NSN Fair
