This square jewelry box is constructed with a black lacquer finish over a wood base and features traditional najeon chilgi mother-of-pearl inlay throughout the exterior and interior. The lid displays a central scene of two cranes among pine trees and stylized clouds beneath a red sun disk. Corresponding crane motifs are inlaid on the sides of the box. The piece is fitted with ornate, silver-toned metal hardware, including two large butterfly-shaped latches on the front and matching hinges on the rear. The box is supported by a bracket-style base with four feet, each decorated with small butterfly inlays. The interior of the top compartment is lined with red velvet and includes specialized ring rolls. A mirror is mounted on the interior side of the lid, framed by a mother-of-pearl butterfly and floral scroll medallion. The interior of the bottom drawer is finished in black lacquer and features an additional large inlaid butterfly and foliate scroll motif. The underside of the box bears a red square seal mark with four characters. Width: approx. 5.25 inches (measured against a ruler) Height: approx. 5.5 inches (measured against a ruler). Condition: The box is in good vintage condition. Minor surface wear is present throughout, including light scratches and small scuffs to the lacquer finish. The mother-of-pearl inlay is largely intact. Light oxidation is visible on the silver-toned metal hardware.
