Oscar Howe (American, 1915-1983) A vibrant ink and watercolor on paper depicting a bare-chested Native American hunter with a blue headband, riding a brown horse. The hunter, holding a spear, dynamically chases a powerful, shaggy black buffalo with white horns across a sparse landscape with green vegetation and a distant blue horizon line. Signed "oscar Howe" in the lower right. Unframed. Oscar Howe was an influential American artist from South Dakota, famous for his tempera and casein paintings. He is widely credited with significantly influencing contemporary Native American art and paving the way for future artists.
