Jon Serl (American, 1894-1993) A vibrant and densely painted work on handpainted paper, depicting a compelling group of expressive figures, including a red-faced individual and a green-skinned figure holding a red flag, set against a brown, rocky background and a pale blue sky. Executed with bold, impasto brushstrokes in a palette of primary reds, blues, greens, and earthy tones. Signed "Jon" in the lower right. Unframed. Jon Serl was an American artist, highly regarded as a self-taught painter. He is often recognized alongside prominent American folk artists such as Grandma Moses and Edward Hicks for his unique artistic vision.
