Giorgio Morandi (Italian, 1890-1964) Oil on canvas depicting a characteristic still life of humble objects, including bottles and a green cylindrical box, arranged against a backdrop of dark, rectangular forms. Rendered in Morandi's signature muted palette of ochres, grays, whites, and earthy greens. Signed 'Morandi' in the lower left. Framed. Born in Bologna, Italy, Morandi received artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1907. He was influenced by the early Italian Renaissance artists, such as Giotto and Masaccio, whose work he studied through the lens of Cezanne. Morandi is renowned for his subtle still life compositions.
