Composition. Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Native American, b. 1940). A mixed-media drawing on paper featuring a stylized, gestural silhouette of a horse surrounded by abstract symbols and layered washes of ochre, crimson, and charcoal grey. The composition employs an expressive, semi-abstract approach with textural marks and symbolic notations against a neutral ground. Signed "Jaune Quick-to-See Smith" in the lower right. Framed. Jaune Quick-to-See Smith is a celebrated contemporary Native American artist and a citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Her multidisciplinary work often addresses complex socio-political issues, tribal identity, and environmental themes through a lens of neo-expressionism. She is widely recognized for her mastery of layering and her ability to bridge traditional indigenous imagery with modern abstract aesthetics.
