Dolls with Handwoven Textiles – 21 5/8 in. This exceptional pair of large Peruvian traditional folk art dolls presents an elaborate celebration of Peru's rich textile traditions, regional dress, and colorful artisan craftsmanship. Standing approximately 21 5/8 inches (55 cm) high each, the two figures are individually dressed in highly detailed traditional-style costumes incorporating handwoven textile elements, embroidery, woven bands, decorative trims, and richly colored fabrics. The male figure wears an elaborate ceremonial-style ensemble distinguished by a dramatic feathered headdress, colorful woven details, fringed elements, a small set of panpipes, and a suspended drum. The female figure is dressed in an especially elaborate layered costume with a richly ornamented floral headdress, multicolored woven mantle, decorated bodice, broad textile belt, and an extensively embellished skirt. Particularly striking is the extraordinary variety of Peruvian textile patterns, vivid colors, floral ornamentation, geometric designs, and hand-worked decorative elements incorporated throughout the pair. Together, the figures form a visually impressive representation of the diversity and richness associated with traditional Peruvian dress and textile craftsmanship. Traditional and contemporary Peruvian artisans have long created dolls dressed in regional costumes as a means of representing the country's distinctive clothing, dances, celebrations, and textile traditions. Examples of traditionally dressed artisan dolls continue to be presented at major Peruvian craft exhibitions, including Ruraq Maki, organized by Peru's Ministry of Culture. Created as decorative and collectible works of Peruvian folk art, these substantial figures combine textile craftsmanship, costume design, and traditional cultural inspiration. Their unusually large scale and exceptionally elaborate costumes give the pair a particularly strong decorative presence. AUTHENTICITY This pair represents an original handcrafted Peruvian artisan creation, individually assembled and dressed by hand. Accompanied by a Certificate of Originality. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE Mixed-media dolls dressed with handwoven and decorated textile elements, embroidered and woven fabrics, decorative trims, feathers, floral ornamentation, and additional handcrafted accessories. Individually assembled, dressed, and finished by hand. DIMENSIONS Each approximately 21 5/8 in. high (55 cm). COLLECTION NOTE Carefully selected directly from the artisan in Peru by Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. for the exceptional richness of their costumes, colorful textile work, elaborate ornamentation, and impressive scale. Presented together, the two figures form a distinctive pair of contemporary Peruvian folk art dolls celebrating the country's renowned traditions of textile craftsmanship and regional dress.
