Seller: Asher Rollins Group Affiliation: Independent Species: Turkey To Whom it my concern, I am Asher Rollins, and I will be showing and selling a turkey at the Butte County Fair. I am 15 years old and going into my sophomore year at Chico High School. This is my 2nd year raising turkeys for the Butte County Fair. I also raise swine for the Silver Dollar Fair. Outside of livestock I participate in sports such as wrestling and football. I have hobbies such as playing guitar and maintaining my saltwater fish tank. I enjoy school and I am a very good student. I am excited for this upcoming school year. I am also excited to sell my turkey at the Butte County Fair. I've raised turkeys for the past several years, once for the fair and some for our family. After my first showing experience 2 years ago (last year there was not an opportunity because of the avian flu) I realized I needed to make some changes to provide the best quality animal for the fair. The changes I made to my project were I purchased my turkeys early so they could be of adequate age and size and I purchased all hens because I learned that a tom to reach its full potential would be overweight for the fair. I have to show as an independent this year because my 4-H club did not have a poultry group because at the beginning of the year the restrictions were still in place regarding the avian flu; I am hopeful that next year I can join a group or exhibit with Chico FFA. My turkeys are free ranging in one of our pastures. In the beginning, I had a struggle with a predator eating the turkeys, so I had to make changes to their living space and lock them in during the evening and allow them to free range during the day until they were bigger.I am planning to take the largest of my turkeys to the fair to give my buyer the best quantity of meat, she will hopefully be just over 30 pounds at weigh Ins I would like to invite you to the Butte County Fair to see the hard work I put into my turkey project this spring and summer. I will be showing my turkey on Wednesday, August 26th and I will be selling my turkey on Saturday, August 29th.
