Dear ______, Hello, my name is Judah McCoy, and I am a member of Durham Parkview 4-H. I am 11 years old and am about to start fifth grade at Durham Elementary. This year for the Butte County Fair, I have raised a market pen of rabbits. These rabbits are Blue New Zealands and were born at our home. This is my second year raising a meat pen, and I have learned a lot. I like raising rabbits because they are smaller and easier to handle than a pig. Our family has raised rabbits for several years. We have New Zealands and some California rabbits. The hardest part of raising rabbits is teaching them to be on their backs for showmanship. My goal for my meat pen is to win grand champion in market, or at least be in the top 5. I will show my rabbits at the Butte County Fair on Wednesday, August 26th. Then, I will sell them in the Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday, August 29th. Buyers are invited to a Buyer’s Breakfast from 8:00-10:00, and then the auction will start at 10:00am. Raising rabbits is an investment. At the auction, I hope to earn enough money to open a long term investment account for my future needs like going to college, buying a car, and being an adult someday.
