Dear ___________________________________, Nice to meet you, my name is Holly McCoy, and you can call me Holly. I am currently a student at Durham High School and am about to begin my freshman year. This past summer has been busy and exciting all the way through. What made this summer so amazing was doing all the things I love. I went camping, traveled to a church conference, practiced volleyball, competed at State Fair, and hung out with my family and friends. Along with all these amazing experiences, I’ve also gotten to raise a market lamb for Butte County Fair this August. His name is Stanley, and I’ve been raising him since early May. We’ve competed in the Silver Dollar Fair Livestock Expo in both the showmanship and prospect classes. There, we took first in senior showmanship and reserve champion prospect lamb. Those were both amazing wins, and we intend to compete for similar results at Butte County. Stanley is a healthy and growing lamb, with an estimated final weight of 130 pounds. He has been bred and raised to be an excellent meal one day, so don’t be afraid to make him yours! Raising livestock, especially a fair project, isn't cheap. I bought a quality lamb for $700, quality food for $30 dollars per bag, and supplements that will make the meat even tastier. You can purchase less expensive meat from Winco, but my lamb Stanley is raised by hand, fed by hand, and walked daily. He will be worth every cent. With the money I hope to receive from the auction, I plan to give, save, and spend it carefully. I will give a tenth of my earnings back to my church where it will be sent out to the world for those in need. I will save most of this money in my Growth Fund/Roth IRA which has been set up for my future. And finally, I will set aside a portion of my earnings to pay for my future livestock project needs. These past few weeks leading up to the Butte County Fair and Auction, I have been putting all of my effort into preparing my lamb—and myself— for those special but stressful moments in the ring. I show on Thursday, August 27th, and I will sell my lamb at the Auction on Saturday, August 29th. I cannot wait to see how we perform, and I sincerely hope to see you there too.
