Duck Call. Daniel "Dan" Crooks (1909-1998) Pineville, LA 6.25" long In 1923, at the age of 13, Dan asked his father, Hardie, if he could make him a duck call. Hardie threw him a pocket knife and instructed him to make his own. He would go on to sell that first duck call for $3 and the rest is history. At some point in the early 50's, Dan transitioned to adding either one or two carvings of a duck on his calls. Calls were finished with linseed oil and placed on his hot water heater to dry. Interestingly, Dan rarely sold a call before it was at least a year old to be sure it wouldn't crack. Single reed - 2 checkered panels, 1 flying duck panel - Stamped "CROOKS" twice on top of barrel and once on insert LA 37 Condition: Excellent and original Provenance: Picone Family Collection
